letterpress - the beginning

as a graduate of a liberal arts college, i felt my education missed a crucial link in explaining the history of this craft. my grandfather actually worked for a press after he returned from world war II, it's in my blood.

at one point i considered buying a press with a friend, but my fascination is usually undermined by the timelines and immediate gratification of computer based type. the new film, typeface, is covering the struggles of hamilton - a company that actually made the wood type. very stoked to check this out. surviving shops make stationary and invites, one of the coolest, hatch show print, has been around over a hundred years - who doesn't want to move to nashville with me?
